Sabre team en route to Spain

TEHRAN, May 10 (MNA) – Iran’s national sabre fencing team will leave Tehran for Madrid to attend Senior World Cup Men’s Sabre Individual and Team.

The 34th Senior World Cup Men’s Sabre Individual and Team dubbed as ‘Villa de Madrid’ will be held in the Spanish capital of Madrid on May 13, 14 and 15th.

Mojtaba Abedini and Ali Pakdaman, who have both secured Olympic spots, together with Mohammad Rahbari and Farzad Baher Arasbaran comprise the Iranian squad to participate in the international event.

Iran’s sabre team at the Spanish tournament will be headed by Peyman Fakhri.

Individual competitions of Villa de Madrid World Cup will take place in the form of one qualifying round of pools, a preliminary direct elimination table and a main direct elimination table of 64 fencers to qualify for a final by direct elimination.

Meanwhile, in the Team competitions, the first four teams will be placed in the direct elimination table according to the current official team ranking of the FIE with the remaining ranked
teams will be placed in the table by drawing of lots in pairs.
